Structural modulation of silver complexes and their distinctive catalytic properties.

A family of silver(I) complexes, [Ag2(L)2(OOCCF3)2] (1), [Ag(L)0.5(OOCCF3)] (2), [Ag(L)2](OOCCF3)(H2O)2 (3), was obtained by reactions of 4,4'-di(2-oxazolinyl)biphenyl (L) and AgOOCCF3 in different reaction media. Compound 1 has a 1D chain structure with alternative connections between the Ag(I) and L ligand. When the crystal nucleation inductor, pyrazine, was added into the reaction system, co...

Palladium(II) thiocarboxamide complexes: synthesis, characterisation and application to catalytic Suzuki coupling reactions.

A simple route to synthesise palladium(II) complexes from the reaction of N-substituted pyridine-2-thiocarboxamide ligands and PdCl(2)(PPh(3))(2) has been developed. The new complexes are very soluble in common solvents and have been fully characterised (elemental analysis, FT-IR, (1)H, (31)P, (13)C-NMR), including an X-ray diffraction analysis. The molecular structures of all the complexes wer...

High yield C-derivatization of weakly coordinating carborane anions.

Unlike the "parent" carborane anion CHB(11)H(11)(-), halogenated carborane anions such as CHB(11)H(5)Br(6)(-) can be readily C-functionalized in high yield and purity, enhancing their utility as weakly coordinating anions.

Triflyloxy-substituted carboranes as useful weakly coordinating anions.

New carborane anions carrying one or three triflyloxy substituents are described. The mono-triflyloxy substituted carborane can be halogenated to give pentabromo and decachloro derivatives with preservation of the B-OTf linkage. The use of [HCB11Cl10OTf](-) as a weakly coordinating anion is demonstrated.

A Predictive Model for the Decarboxylation of Silver Benzoate Complexes Relevant to Decarboxylative Coupling Reactions.

Decarboxylative coupling reactions offer an attractive route to generate functionalized arenes from simple and readily available carboxylic acid coupling partners, yet they are underutilized due to limitations in the scope of carboxylic acid coupling partner. Here we report that the field effect parameter (F) has a substantial influence on the rate of decarboxylation of well-defined silver benz...
